Ram's Upcoming Electric Pickup Truck Won't Offer the Bigger Battery
Ram Drops Larger Battery Option for 2026 1500 REV, Prioritizes Plug-In Hybrid
Ram has officially scrapped plans to offer a 229.0-kWh battery pack for its upcoming 2026 Ram 1500 REV electric truck. Initially set to provide an estimated 500-mile range, the larger battery option will no longer be available, leaving buyers with just a 168.0-kWh pack, which offers approximately 350 miles per charge.
Why the Change?
According to a Ram spokesperson, the decision to eliminate the bigger battery aligns with the company’s focus on the plug-in-hybrid Ramcharger, which is now set to launch before the all-electric 1500 REV. The shift comes amid decreasing demand for EV trucks and growing customer interest in plug-in hybrid alternatives.
Production Adjustments
When the Ram 1500 REV was first unveiled in 2023, it was planned with two battery options. However, as production timelines shifted, the Ramcharger PHEV has taken priority, with orders expected to open in the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, the all-electric 1500 REV has been delayed to 2026.
What This Means for Buyers
By eliminating the 229.0-kWh battery, Ram simplifies the 1500 REV lineup while also keeping costs down. For those concerned about range, the Ramcharger plug-in hybrid offers a viable alternative, combining an electric powertrain with a gasoline range extender to alleviate range anxiety.
While the smaller battery remains, delivering an estimated 350-mile range, Ram’s shift in strategy underscores the evolving market for electrified trucks, where hybrid solutions are gaining traction over fully electric models.
