74,000 Kia Sorento Models Recalled for Headlight, Taillight Failure

Kia Recalls 74,000 Sorento SUVs Due to Headlight and Taillight Software Issue

Kia has announced a recall affecting approximately 74,469 Sorento SUVs due to a software malfunction that may cause temporary power loss to the headlights and taillights. This issue stems from a software logic error in the Body Domain Control Unit (BDC), which could compromise visibility and safety.

Models Affected

The recall includes the following 2024 and 2025 Sorento variants:

2024–2025 Sorento (non-hybrid)63,782 units

2025 Sorento Hybrid8,937 units

2025 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)1,750 units

Solution & Fix

To resolve the issue, Kia dealers will install updated software to the BDC, which has been improved to prevent power disruptions. According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Kia has already implemented the updated software in vehicles produced after specific dates:

Non-hybrid Sorento models – Built on or after September 19, 2024

Sorento Hybrid models – Produced from July 19, 2024

Sorento PHEV models – Manufactured starting June 20, 2024

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified, and the software update will be performed free of charge at Kia dealerships.
